Wayne Youngquist grew up in what is now the Saveland Park Neighborhood. He attended Tippecanoe Grade school, Humboldt Park School for middle school, and Bayview High school. After high school he enrolled at UWM and earned a bachelor’s degree. Youngquist then pursued philosophy in graduate school as a Rockefeller Scholar at Princeton Mr. Youngquist continued his studies at Princeton, Rutgers, and Cornell. He then was a professor at Marquette University and by that time he was pursuing political sociology. He was regularly sought out by Time, Newsweek, and the local Milwaukee news media for comments and insights on politics and important social news. That led to his working for Channel 12/WISN Television news as a political analyst and pollster where Mr. Youngquist was the first in Wisconsin to do exit polling on election days. After his television career Wayne Youngquist continued teaching and lecturing at UWM, Ithaca College, and Northern Illinois Universities. In more recent years he developed curricula at UW-Whitewater: the Sociology of Suicide, and the Sociology of Terrorism. Mr. Youngquist might or might not speak about the above aspects of his distinguished career but most importantly he has been invited to help us develop our sense of place and history within the Tippecanoe and Town of lake area by sharing his experience growing up near the intersection of Howell and Howard Avenues.
