GARDEN COMMITTEE FALL CLEANUP
The GDNA Community Gardens at 6th & Howard look fantastic after another banner end-of-season cleanup. A most robust and wonderful corps of garden volunteers led by Marie Cassavant, with Dawn Riegel, Garden District Neighborhood Association members, many Boy Scouts, Kompost Kids, and others put in a vigorous workday at the community gardens followed by a well-deserved cook-out. They made a usually pretty spot even tidier as the gardening season officially ended for this corner of the neighborhood. (Pictures below)
VOLUNTEER BULB PLANTING
Thanks to the many neighborhood volunteers who helped plant 2000 bulbs adjacent to the 20th street bridge along I-894, we look forward to many years of beauty and multiplication of daffodils to punctuate our piece of Milwaukee as THE Garden District! Thanks to all at WisDOT who conceived and organized the planting, Ald. Terry Witkowski who corralled volunteers, Samer Abulughod and the young women from the Islamic Society, residents and kids who all pitched in and all the volunteers who also serve on the Board of Directors for the Garden District Neighborhood Association - the 13th district-wide umbrella organization that has been so instrumental in getting our groups and efforts kick-started.
